jjjloy Being that it was based on true story made this more interesting. With the crazy antics that Steven pulls U would of never thought this could be based on true life. A different role for Jim Carrey as well as Ewem McGregor whom I thought was excellent. A roller coaster of wild antics and strong homosexual themes but average movie with interesting true facts.
Finfrosk86 This movie is so.. Gay! Kidding! Well, it is, but you know..I really enjoyed this movie. Jim Carrey is great. He once again shows that he can act. He can act indeed. Ewan McGregor does a good job too.I am no big advocate for gay rights or anything, and I am not gay, so I don't have any "ulterior motive" with liking this movie. But equal rights should of course be a given, no matter what your sexuality, gender, whatever is.What I'm trying to say is that this movie is good. And it's not just good for people who are interested in, uhm, gay stuff.I Love You Phillip Morris is not like every other movie out there, either. It is a little bit of an original story. It's really fun to see Stephen Russells endeavors.
dworldeater I Love You Philip Morris is based on a true story of a real life con man Steven Russell. Playing Steve Russell is Jim Carrey in his best acting performance to date. This indie film is a very well structured drama/comedy that has strong storytelling, great acting and direction and large doses of black humor. The story starts as Steve Russell living a straight life as a cop with his wife and daughter. After an automobile accident he decides to come out of the closet and live his life as a gay man. He soon realizes that to maintain his lavish and flamboyant lifestyle require more than his honest job wage can suppliment. So, he orchestrates a series of scams that put him in prison. He then meets the love of his life, Philip Morris and as the romance escalates, so does the scams. Jim Carrey is brilliant in this role and Ewan Mc Gregor deserves a lot of credit as well. I have no idea how much of this story is truth or fiction, but it is a remarkable story. Overall the film is very smart, funny and well made. Great movie.
SnoopyStyle Steven Russell (Jim Carrey) is a cop married to Debbie (Leslie Mann) with a milk and cookies family. He finds his birth mom but she rejects him. He feels like something's wrong. He packs up his family and moves to Texas. Oh! And he's gay. He's living a lie until a car accident. He comes out of the closet. Only his gay lifestyle is expensive and he becomes a con man. In prison, he falls for sweet Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). The problem for me is that I never liked Steven. Jim Carrey is giving a big performance. I wish I can fall for this character but I can't. The jokes fall flat for me. I would rather have this be a serious movie and let the craziness be funny on its own terms. I think that I would be willing to laugh at Steven if the movie sets a slightly different tone. The material is there for a black comedy. This is a near miss for me.
