Synopsis

Beauty and the Beast is an American drama series which first aired on CBS in 1987. Creator Ron Koslow's updated version of the fairy tale has a double focus: the relationship between Vincent, a mythic, noble man-beast, and Catherine, a savvy Assistant District Attorney in New York; and a secret Utopian community of social outcasts living in a subterranean sanctuary. adonis98-743-186503 The adventures and romance of a sensitive and cultured lion-man and a crusading assistant district attorney in Manhattan, New York City. Although it's nowhere near as good as the animation that was released on 1991 this 1987 TV Series starring Linda Hamilton (The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and Ron Perlman as Vincent (Hellboy). What i really loved about the show was how Vincent tried to help his people and even strangers that he just met and plus his relationship with Catherine was really good but the series does have flaws mostly with some episodes really just being not that great but overall go check it out and you might actually enjoy it.
lizashasia3 I remember watching this show when I was 13 with my mother. This show was a great display that two people who love each other can be together no matter what their circumstances are or what there backgrounds are. Further, although Vincent was did not look like the average man, but he was smart, strong, loving and had a wonderful spirit. Most women are looking for a man like him. What he looked like did not bother me at all. Vincent was always their to protect and defend Catherine in any way he could. Their bond was so strong that they knew when each other was in distress. This show was realistic and did focus on many issues that exist today. For example, both Vincent and Catherine had past relationships, but they unlike many people in the real world were honest with each other even if what they said may have hurt them. I watched every episode that was on Netflix, and I was hooked. I only wish they could have ended the show in a better way then they did. The acting was excellent and I wish their were more shows like this. This show was a great adventure.
cathvin87 Truly a great romance, these two people from very different worlds are soul mates. Catherine lost her mother at a young age & her wealthy father gave her every advantage, yet something's missing in her life. Vincent was found as a 'unique' infant & taken into the tunnels, a hidden underground community where they live & work together as a family. They accept & love Vincent as he is. When Catherine is mistaken for someone else, thugs cut her face, beat her & leave her for dead in Central Park. Vincent finds her & takes care of her Below where they form a psychic bond. After Catherine's surgery to remove her scars she leaves her father's corporate law firm for the District Attorney's office. She also takes self-defense classes so she'll never be so vulnerable again. Vincent senses whenever she's needs him through their bond & rescues her from danger. Their love grows, but sadly due to unforeseen cast re-arranging the writers gave what most fans considered a very unsatisfactory ending of third season. Speaking for myself, I would love to see a television movie with a younger cast in the same roles portray a different ending as many fans have written for themselves to resolve their feelings of discontent. ---(Not a Spoiler) Personally, I would never want Vincent to turn into a human prince. I would rather see more insight into his origins. That could be another movie unto itself.
jaqhuff This is a great series. I was a bit disappointed in season 3 because it was much more depressing and obviously, Catherine was gone. As the whole premise was about Cathy and Vincent, this was not the best end to a fairytale romance series. That said, I enjoyed it overall and seasons 1&2 were great escapism.Vincent is the answer to a woman's dream in the romance department and he also has a bit of the bad boy in him (strange how he was never held accountable for any of the numerous murders he committed- criminals or not). He captures the heart and soul with his poetry and kindness. Who wouldn't want that in a man/beast (sans murders)? Great memories from my teenage years watching and wishing for my own Vincent - I kind of have one now. Except he's not a genetic mutation and doesn't live beneath the streets.I disagree with one reviewer (Venus-25, NY) who states that we never found out how Vincent became the way he was. In the episode where Vincent discovers that Paracelsus could be his real father, "Father" clearly explains to Vincent how his mother looked in horror at Paracelsus when she realized in her agony of giving birth that Paracelsus has done a bizarre experiment on her. So Vincent is the result of a medical experiment which killed his mother as she gave birth to him.
