Sexyloutak Absolutely the worst movie.
Senteur As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
joekinplaya IMO DS9 is the best installment but it should be noted it's not really "Star Trek" in a sense. It should more be called Deep Space Nine. They just called it Star Trek so fans can make the resemblance and it won't be hard to regain the steady and ready viewers instead of trying to market from scratch. However DS9 quickly became my favorite thanks to key players such as Quark, Nog, Ben Sisko, Odo, and even Garak and the ever so vain Gul Dukat. I really love the take they took with Ferengi here. We've always seen depictions of Ferengi as these creatures that kind of seem inferior to us humans. They are greedy, vain, and even sexist. However in this series, we quickly learn that Ferengi are much more than just that. Greedy a little sure but when you watch how Quark criticizes Sisko of how humans are guilty of things worse than what Ferengi have done... and after learning humans nuclear tested on their own planet, we learn that creatures like Ferengi actually might look down on people like us for being barbaric savages. It's a recurring theme in this show that human beings are simply saints and ever so "good" because we live in peace."However take away the comfort and food and water and they become as savage as Jem'hadar or Klingons."This is a nice antithesis to have to TNG where it depicts their society as this picture perfect utopia. We just know that's not true which is what Q was constantly trying to emphasize. We see here proof of how in the same universe, the very same humans who have "evolved" to be quite so perfect socially were not evolved... we're just adapted to our environment and our environment was kind/peaceful to us.Much of DS9 serves as a very interesting episodic yet also linear story line so it serves a nice purpose of having story arcs while including episode wonders to dazzle you with new ideas of science fiction. As someone who religiously loves TNG, I will painfully and reluctantly say DS9 is way better. I also loved the episode where they go to Earth's past 2024 where there are sanctuary cities and where Ben is a colored man in racist times and the crew of DS9 were employees at a scientific journal office.
HarryCrumpet Deep Space Nine isn't the best Star Trek series but it does take the time to fully develop all it's characters and settings and while some episodes leave a lot to be desired (for example the episode dedicated to a match of baseball between the crew of Deep Space Nine and some Vulcans) it still manages to create interesting, and sometimes goofy stories. The special effects have certainly improved since the days of the original series and while they are still clearly noticeable they aren't as glaringly obvious and distracting as the giant space monkey face from Next Gen. All in all I'm giving Deep Space Nine a seven out of ten for it's mostly enjoyable content, but sometimes ridiculous episode plot lines (like the baseball episode)
bstimy I just finished Deep Space 9 today after binge watching on Netflix for a couple months. I am a huge fan of TNG, never saw TOS, but thought TNG was the end of the road for me and so for many many years I never gave any other Trek's a go. Well, when I finally decided maybe I might give another one a try. I read the threads and understood the caveat emptor that it takes a coupe seasons to get going but then once it does, wow. Well, all I can say months later is wow, myself. TNG NEVER had a story arc like DS9. Never had character building like DS9. Yes, after watching Patrick Stewart all those years on TNG, he's clearly the best actor of Star Trek - that I've seen, but had he been given the story lines of DS9...I can only imagine. At the end of the day, I never cared for characters the way I did on DS9. Major Kira, Odo, Nog and the episode where he "mends" in the holo suite with Vic Fontaine. I could go on and on but one thing that was amazing was we get a Star Trek with a full scale WAR. If you are thinking about watching this and have doubts, just watch it. It's sooooo worth it (it takes a bit of character and storyline building to get there though)
belldave50 I have been a Star Trek fan ever since I was sat down in front of a TV in a dark room in 1987 at age 5, completely enthralled by Encounter at Farpoint. So I of course grew up with TNG and watched the original series afterwards, but also grew up on the movies but never felt the TNG made it on the big screen very well.So despite my love for the first two series and casts, I absolutely loved DS9. Objectively, it was darker with more continuation of it's stories. Unlike TNG where Picard is an adventurer philosopher, a master and commander in space, DS9 is an ongoing drama with a coherent universe. This is where the TNG universe came together. In the original series and TNG, the Star Trek universe felt somewhat fragmented. It was a universe put together through fragmented episodes. In DS9, the characters were fantastic. They played off each other significantly. For example, Odo and Quark seemed to need each other to be who they were, despite acting like they hated each other, being polar opposites. After this series, I was disappointed by the next two series, Voyager felt like Start Trek "lite," and Enterprise seemed like a prequel I didn't really care about. Although I pop on a good TNG or original series episode randomly, DS9 is constantly pulling me in to watch multiple episodes to follow it's brilliant stories and universe.
