keith-williamson-650-728416 I'm talking about season 2 here , it's so bad it cant be serious ? The terrible acting is quite funny , is it a comedy ? I hope that was the intention of the writers ? The exaggerated stereotypes ,it's ridiculous , they are like pantomime characters.

novarocker I just can't describe how bad the second season is compared to first one. The acting of the whole cast is just awful. The writing is hilariously bad and doesn't make any sense. Every character is completely over the top, no normal people would act that way. The murder is just a silly side plot and any progress is some weird coincidence. There is no mystery, everything you must know is told in the first episode. The second season has nothing to to with the first one. Don't watch it, its a complete waste of time.

djv-1301 I won't repeat the pertinent points already raised by other reviewers who hated Top of the Lake China Girl, but I want to add something I haven't seen anyone else mention, and that is that Puss/Alexander was just an amalgamation of G.J. and Matt from season one. This to me summarises how unimaginative and unoriginal the writing in China Girl was.

mj-04155 After enjoying watching season 1 almost 4 years ago we were excited about the season 2 release. Although the story contains the elements for a good police/mystery drama, it unfolds in an uneven, fragmented, and mostly disappointing way. I get that director wanted viewers to see how "damaged" the characters were, but please, do not make them act as lunatics. Not only they were damaged, but they were weak, irrational characters who behaved in deranged ways. Examples: Robin goes to court (?) to confront a man who had abused her previously, he goes into a room where she is waiting, locks the door and starts moving menacingly towards her. She does not raise her voice, does not try to leave the and does not defend herself until it is too late. Are we supposed to believe a police trained DETECTIVE would react this passively? Why would Miranda and the police chief decide to have a surrogate child while they were still lovers? During the ongoing affair, he was still married, and she herself had a fling with Robin's brother. If the body propped at a street curb was the brothel's owner who was shot AT the brothel, why was he moved? And who then was the body inside the ambulance? There were so many incongruences throughout the story so it became almost annoying to watch.
