Synopsis

If you've never been good at anything in your life, why would murder be any different? Vashirdfel Simply A Masterpiece
Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Roman Sampson One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
TedMichaelMor Delightful with the reviews posted already telling many reasons why, "A Dog's Breakfast" does telegraph the ending early but the playing out is deadpan fun. The film works at all levels from cinematography to editing, to acting, to music, and all else. There is not a wasted line, a wasted frame, or a failed turn in plot.At first, I felt a tad put off by Patrick but then I related him to eccentric people I know and fell into watching the story play out with a final playful twist or turnabout.By the way, I loved the sister character and actress. She is delightful.Music by Tim Williams is a key player. The editing by Jason Schneider never has a bad cut. This movie is much better than many highly promoted and expensively made films.
BuffySchultz2004 I was expecting regular B movie plots and acting, but I was quite surprised. The story was well told, a bit reminiscent of Poe's work, but many murder flicks are, it is hard not to be similar to some aspect of his work. This film was funny, much better than your general independent film, well written, well acted, and on a total film budget that would be more comparable to the food budget for most Hollywood films. I like outsider work, I like to see films made by real people, with real acting, not all factory mass produced homogeneous fare. If you don't like truly independent films, don't watch this. If you think all films should look like they were shot on a $20 million dollar budget with A list actors, do not bother with this little gem, that is OK, us Hewlett fans are fine keeping the film for ourselves.
RoboTripper First off, let me say that I went into this movie not knowing anything about it other than the title, which only caught my interest because I thought it was a very obscure Kurt Vonnegut reference.About ten minutes into the film, (once I realized it had nothing to do with Vonnegut whatsoever), I almost turned it off. I'm very glad I didn't.A cast and crew of unknowns on a shoestring budget managed to crank out a darkly comedic flick that would, in a more fair world, be hugely successful at the box office. David Hewlett's portrayal of the neurotic and disturbed Patrick is flawless, and the on screen chemistry with his real life sister Kate adds an amazingly real touch of sibling rivalry. Paul McGillion plays the part of the cheesy actor to a T.The jokes keep rolling throughout the movie. Patrick's deadpan leaves one in stitches while Marilyn and Ryan's zingers keep the viewer from fully recovering between punchlines. The only downfall to this film is its predictability. I'm not one to try to figure out the end of a movie, but the plot is thin to the point of the ethereal in a few spots, which allows one to easily deduce the film's resolution. In any case, A fine debut from David Hewlett, and I will watch what will likely be his meteoric rise with great anticipation.
pattm-2 A wonderfully witty, clever and just plain fun movie that the whole family can enjoy.Great acting, stunts and facial expressions that are absolutely hilarious. And that's just the dog! The people are pretty funny too!As actor, writer and debut director, David Hewlett got this puppy right his first time out.And watch through to the end of the credits. Hewlett's ending tribute is as classy as they come, and speaks volumes about him as a filmmaker. You can't miss with this movie. It's a great holiday gift that you can share with family, friends and neighbors.
