Hirsch is miscast heavily & he should stay in comedy genre. Ensemble movies? They are all failures incl. this one BORING piece of cry pseudodrama. Also that's too theatrical for a movie. You'd hate all characters. FAIL.
emigdal-23658 This is a compelling story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I enjoyed all aspects of this film and would highly recommend it. The acting is superb with Judd Hirsch leading a well cast ensemble of actors through an intricate plot. The film is dark and intense without rising to the level of a "horror" movie. The story builds steadily to its climax when all the pieces fit together in a finely crafted manner. I viewed this film twice at the Palm Beach International Film Festival in March 2015 and it was well received by the audience. I hope it goes into wide release so that many movie fans will have an opportunity to experience and appreciate this excellent work.
Smitty46 Loved this movie! The story centers on a family that has gathered to say goodbye to their father, who is in his last days. He is a scientist who, with his wife, has adopted and raised a number of children during his life. The movie reveals struggles that some of the children have had and this time in their father's home allows them to recount past events, causing secrets to be revealed.The interaction between the diverse and talented cast was superb and the story keeps the viewer from wanting to miss a second. Flashback scenes keep the viewer's heart rate up with the race to figure out what happened before the story is resolved. Even so, the story's resolution is completely unexpected and worth waiting for.Highly recommend!

Based on the the true stories of horrific CIA experimentation, the film explores layer by layer the complexities and emotional struggles of a family coming to grips with its past. As the family gathers to celebrate the ill patriarch's (Judd Hirsch) birthday, tension soon arises, and what is real and what is unreal, the claims and counter claims pull the viewer in to this fraught and dangerous journey to the truth. Set in a huge gloomy mansion with its own secrets, in the middle of a bleak snow and icicle filled winter, aided by the stunning score by Edmund Choi, the film is tautly directed by Michael Wechsler.
