Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
blanche-2 "British Intelligence" from 1940 is a quick film starring Boris Karloff, Margaret Lindsay, Holmes Herbert, and Bruce Lester.Though it's supposed to take place in World War I, it's really a World War II film about espionage, spies of unknown loyalty, and the German urge to take over the world which surfaces from time to time.Lindsay and Karloff both play secret agents placed in the home of a Mr. Bennett, a British official who has campaign secrets and troop placements worth investigating. Spies are everywhere, and everyone seems to be looking for a German spy named Stedler. And we're not sure what side anyone is on.Very entertaining. A combination of spy and mystery story, two of my favorite genres.

It is a Short, Busy Thriller that Weaves More Threads than an Expensive Suit. Keeping it All in Line is a Strain on the Entertainment Value, but the Movie Never Ceases to be Entertaining.The Use of Stock War Footage is Excellent and Packs a Punch. Boris Karloff has a Scarred Face, a Limp, and More Accents than You can Care About. But He is the Deformed Centerpiece in this Table Set with Spy vs Spy vs Spy vs Spy. In Fact Everyone is a Spy and They are doing Spy Stuff Everywhere. Overall it is a Neat Time-Piece that has the Added Pleasure of Speechifying about the Kaiser and Germany when They Actually are Referring to Hitler and Germany and to Wrap it All Up there is One Last Shout Out to the World about War and We Hate it, but We Fight it all the While Staring Straight at the Camera. Indispensable and a Bonafide Historical Treasure.
Armand obvious propaganda movie, it remains interesting first for Boris Karloff presence. far to be bad, it has a clear target. and only sin may be the final speech , too patriotic to serve the film. spies, ambiguity, predictable scenes and heroic final, ball of confusion , nice in few moments, it is piece from a period frame and that is the role who defines it. its virtue - to remember a tragedy of recent history. this status makes it almost a documentary, with artistic crumbs, fake moments, but useful for to suggest the fight of a generation for common values. behind that, only good thing is Boris Karloff in classic dark role of the ambiguous hero who can defines entire story.
arfdawg-1 Well made picture.Well paced fight scenes of WWI.This is a very short movie -- only about 60 minutes. Boris Karloff plays a German spy.He's all scarred up in the face.Has a British accent not German. And sports a limp.Not a bad picture.Too bad Karloff is sort of forgotten except for Frankenstein.The plot:During WWI pretty German master spy Helene von Lorbeer is sent undercover to London to live with the family of a high-placed British official where she is to rendezvous with the butler Valdar, also a spy, and help him transmit secret war plans back to Germany.
