Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
Donald Seymour This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Rexanne It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
lil_moe If you are here, then you already know the movie you're watching is not Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Within 5 weeks, three movies titled Hansel and Gretel were released, presumably to piggyback off of the success of the 50 billion U.S dollar Hansel and Gretel. I'm assuming (judging by other reviewers) that everyone watched this thinking they were seeing the big Hollywood blockbuster that was heavily marketed. Hence: the hatred. This is an Asylum movie. It isn't their best but definitely not their worst either. The performances and effects are decent as far as Asylum movies go. The storyline is good and there's definitely enough tension to keep you looking at the screen till the end credits. In short: if you like Asylum movies (low budget cheesy horror, mostly) you will absolutely love this one. If you're thinking this movie is the big blockbuster Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters then you will be extremely displeased.
emmareden It wasn't great by any means of the imagination. It was one of those teenagery horror films that are a bit lazy but still entertaining. As a fan of fairytale's I'm always interested to see all interpretations of different stories. This one was mostly predictable, though I was interested in why she didn't just dump Gretel down with Hansel to begin with. The gore, particularly in one scene, had me turning my head from the screen, so I think that's a good thing? Maybe? I don't know. The acting was alright, Hansel (I don't know his name) was probably the weakest but not terrible. Same with the script.I watched it while I did other stuff and for that, it was fine because you didn't miss too much if you missed a second and didn't have to concentrate too hard.Don't expect anything amazing, but an entertaining mild horror twist on fairytale.I actually didn't think the ending was too bad. I thought it was going to be one of those *spoiler* oh yay everything is good woohoo. But it wasn't. (end scene)For a lazy Sunday or wanna kill some time - give it a go. If you're looking for something spectacular and riveting - don't.5.5/10
Sagar Gangabisoensingh This movie is in one word awful Calling the characters stupid would be a compliment. They had to help a girl who was about to get eaten. It took them 15 minutes to get there while the room was 30 sec away. They also had like 50 opportunities to kill the "bad guys", but they are just hysterically shouting. There were also just horrible to see gore scenes, which where nothing but dirty to see. End was also... indescribably bad Save yourself 1 hour and 30 sec of your life and don't watch this movie.I never write reviews but this movie was so bad I had to share this. Movies like these should be banned
trapp_p Read the other reviews, they summarise all that is bad about this movie. Basically a waste of time and budget, B-grade horror suitable only for a late-night horror channel on TV. Not quite as bad as 'The Thing for the Black Lagoon' (but about 40 years newer) the SFX are woeful and the plot is predictable, including the punchline..... (if that is what it is supposed to be). It is what I think is called a 'cliff-hanger' - allowing you to continue the plot line later - if there is interest. In the case of this movie a sequel would be an act of insanity. Apparently I need 10 lines to submit this review so here is the tenth one.
