TrueJoshNight Truly Dreadful Film
Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
fedor8 Standard: whenever a horror film has a high rating, it invariably turns out to be crap. If you prefer to be alternately bored (the damn thing is almost two hours) but also flabbergasted by the most asinine plot imaginable, watch this garbage. Just don't go whining to me that I hadn't warned you. It's not a real comedy. It's just a highly cretinous thriller with the usual sub-standard Kiwi humour thrown in occasionally. The plot-twists are mind-boggling in their imbecility, starting from the guy who's been living - undetected - within the walls of the house for years (living on air and worms?), then the junkie who doesn't lose her house-arrest privileges even after numerous incidents (including stabbing a man with scissors), all the way to the intelligence-insulting twist that gives us the SOCIAL WORKER as the girl's killer. Utter rubbish in every conceivable way, with so many plot holes that it's the movie equivalent of cheese. Avoids the lowest rating for the peeing scene.
ranentrudgett No idea how it got such a high rating, maybe because it appeals to casual mainstream audiences who have very low standards and enjoy a few light hearted jokes here and there, to put it simply, it's not funny and it's not scary, unless of course you're a simpleton.
juanmuscle First time ever watching a movie from this provenance. I know not where this land is nor do I really care, but what I do care is who is this truly beautifully wacked out super cool tuff yet delicate thespian and will so ever come to Hollywood or will Hollywood go to her, do not know enough about this lady's personage to know such things, but one thing we are all definitely certain about, surely we the cinephiles of true seminal cinema fun, we will bear our way over to her, upon contact be transfigured, with one fixed look transcend, and to experience her work will transport us! Yes, 'Housebound' what a truly delightful trip into some really pulp and juicy down Under film bazaar! (I'm guessing 'Housebound' team hail from the South somewhere) At all events I loved every second, I kept stumbling along thinking this guy is bad, no, this guy, until finally the real bad thing turned into a third act super extravaganza which upon the whole tramped and stamped and treaded all over me, and once again, I loved every second of the ending as well! I may be projecting but with yet the stellar acting skills could she possibly have descended from Deniro? (Think of the scene when she first gets to her mom's house and is outside smoking, and in slow motion we see those eyes, those magical eyes from whose pools of blood reflect back to us the great many scenes Deniro and Pesci had together! Who knows, but she definitely has a perspicacious propinquity to stardom!
jodygogo This movie turned out to be a frightfully delightful treat!! Wonderful chemistry, endearing pathos, refreshingly natural acting, ingenious camera work (did I detect a bit of a Sam Raimi homage going on?), and enough scary pop-ups to fulfill one's daily dose of cardio. And all of this cinematographic deliciousness served up without need of gratuitous sex, extraneous violence, or heavy-handed moralizing. My family and I (including youngsters) were charmed by this little gem (see wot I did there?). We shall certainly keep an eye out for upcoming projects by this talented writer/director (and his perfectly selected cast and crew).Watch it today. Then watch and enjoy it again.A true prize!!
