adonis98-743-186503 A timeless tale that takes place against the backdrop of the segregated coffee fields in 1920s Hawaii - a coming-of-age journey about a young man who transcends the boundaries of race and class in pursuit of a forbidden love. Running for Grace has something important to say i'm sure of it and i totally understand that but it's unfortunately not as dramatic or as entertaining as it could have been since i found it quite boring to say the least plus both Matt Dillon and Jim Caviezel? In my opinion deserved better although their not bad. (3/10)

mshultise OK, I'm biased because I live on the Big Island where this was filmed. Still, I give the movie a great review because even though it is a somewhat simple love story, it does blends in other aspects of Hawaii life back then.The movie is a feel-good love story and it is worth seeing. I actually bough tickets and took friends.Because it was filmed here, almost everyone in the theater waited through all the credits to see who they knew. At one point in the film I saw some farmland and realized that I had been in that spot a few months back.

Think of it as Romeo and Juliet in a lush tropical setting.Jim Caveziel is Reyes, a villain you love to hate. He couldn't be further removed from his raw portrayal as Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ." All of the actors turned in seamless performances. Ryan Potter shows star quality as Jo, the lead character. Cole Takiue plays Jo as a child, capturing the audience in this, his first acting job.Matt Dillon's performance as Doc wins you over. I liked him before in his Oscar-nominated role in "Crash." With this film he adds even more luster to his career.David Cunningham's skill in pulling all of this together was amazing. He pulls back the curtain on some cruel parts of this Hawaiian island's history. His scenes will also sweep you into the incredible beauty of the Big Island and its people. I can always tell when a movie is very good. If I have a warm, fuzzy feeling the next day, I will never forget that film. Today, with an amazing array of outlets gushing out movies for the big screen, TV, and streaming online, so many are instantly forgotten. Not this one. I'm basking in the satisfaction of a heartfelt story, presented with excellence.

Incredibly beautiful scenery (great to see it on the big screen), and great story-line with good moral content (pro-adoption, anti-prejudice) and all the right elements of love, action, historical accuracy for early 20th century Hawaii, and conflict between good and evil. Matt Dillon's acting was epic...as was Cole (young Jo, the medicine runner - how can anyone be so naturally cute!!!) and Ryan Potter as older Jo. Wonderful! I've seen it three times, just to try to capture all of the scenery and hidden treasures in the story. I've taken a different friend each time to share the fun!!
