SoTrumpBelieve Must See Movie...
Beanbioca As Good As It Gets
Jenna Walter The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
Ella-May O'Brien Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
rcsg002 If there was a negative rating, this film deserves it. I couldn't even get through the first ten minutes of this film. That's more time then I am going to spend on this review. Don't waste your time. Don't waste your money. I can't believe Amazon charges $2.99 to rent this movie. They should pay you. I heard it was bad, but I gave it a shot because of Mel Brooks. I later listened to an interview with Mel Brooks on how he almost lost everything, his house, cars and life (He wanted to jump off a building) over financing this film. He states its his fault for being "Lazy" and he didn't want to fly to Spain. The film was only supposed to cost $5,000,000 to make. It was made in Spain because of the lack of labor unions. The final cost as per IMDb was "$25,000,000 (estimated)". I can not see where that kind of money was spent making this, all I can think is someone walked away with very full pockets,
Predrag This movies plot is simply horrible. However, the whole movie is just insanely random and great. You never truly know what is happening. People riding roller skates through the desert and playing a game called "SkateBall". There is a general that wears a blue M. Bison suit. Water is State-controlled. The world is a desert, and children live is camps to be "educated" to serve the Eco-Protectorate. Then Bodhai arrives - a being found by one of the children, Daniel. And that's when the story kicks into gear. The effects are a little on the cheesy side when compared to present day, but the story is there. This movie was a true product of the 80's, the kind of "Mad Max Lite" for the kiddies to watch when the adults are in the next theater watching "Kramer vs Kramer." If you are a fan of the 80's movies, this will definitely put you in a nostalgic frame of mind. Jason Patric fills the role of the Patriarch and Jamie Gertz the Matriarch. But to the performances... Everyone of the kids but Jamie Gertz (who told her she could act?) were enjoyable enough very harmless. The soundtrack needs to be muted... awful. Lots of Roller Skating, I guess it was a thing at the time. Silly movie and predictable but harmless enough.Overall rating: 6 out of 10.
OneEightNine Media I tried.. I really did. This came on TV the other day and I thought, why not watch some 80s cheese. I knew it was going to be bad but I was not expecting it to be borderline torture. After 20 minutes into the film the temptation to change the channel was strong but I pressed on for another 30 minutes or so before finally changing the channel and ending my suffering. Basically the film is a post-apocalyptic teenage cheese flick with a floating alien ball trying to act cute. I should note that the film has a strong anti-global warming message. They knew back in the 80s what is currently happening to the world would happen and they still let it happen. What a laugh. Anyway, avoid this movie at all cost. It is 80s cheese but it is very bad cheese.
Christian Wilson After about 20 years of having little more than vague memories of this movie rollerskating about in my head, I finally broke down and re-watched Solarbabies. All I can say is, well, bless them for trying. It really isn't a BAD movie... it does manage to be entertaining even though it occasionally drags. The only problem is that it borrows a lot from other movies and never seems to decide on a style of its own.Overall I didn't feel as drawn in to the story as I'd hoped, but despite the somewhat vague plot and generic characters, it was still good fun. And if nothing else, it teaches us that all we really need to set things right in the world are friendship and roller skating. And maybe a magic ball from outer space.
