Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

MartinHafer I love "The Muppet Movie" and have watched it several times. It's fun, it's funny and, most importantly, it's entertaining. Tonight I decided to try re-watching some other older Muppet films and was absolutely dumbfounded by how bad "The Muppets Take Manhattan" was considering the wonderful characters they had to work with in the film. Think about it...Kermit and the gang...and they were boring! The film is all about their trip to New York in order to go to Broadway--but there are simply few laughs and no joy in the film. Most of the songs, apart from the sequel song (which was also re- used in their last film), were bland and forgettable, the laughs are few and the plot isn't particularly engaging. The only good things, the many cool stunts to make the characters seem more real by having them walk seemingly independently of the puppeteers, were nice--but this was not the reason I watched the film. My feeling is that only the biggest (and perhaps most undemanding) fans will enjoy this one. My vote for the worst of the Muppet films.
KingBrian1 This cheerful, sad, funny and a little soppy at times is an excellent kids movie from the 80's. Grew up remembering seeing it on TV but not fully appreciating it until I was older. This movie in my eyes made the Muppets as great movie makers. Prior to this I knew of the Muppets only on the show but once they were rocketed into the film making business from this movie on they got much better. Muppets Christmas Carol and Muppets Treasure Island owe in part their success to this grand movie. Long may the Muppets inspire joy and love and make ever more films. Becoming a success on film which what this movie did meant that the Muppets were as good on film as they were on TV. Jim Henson and Frank Oz brought the Muppets to life over the previous Movies and the TV show and they are to be congratulated for creating such great characters. Jim Henson must also be thanked for his work on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Robert This one was quite an interesting movie. It had potential. But I feel it was put down with too much funny and not enough character plot and growth.It is simply, that the characters want to succeed in Broadway yet can't find anyone to help them. Then they all split. Then they all come together, Kermit ends up forgetting who he is, but in the end they all remember.I found the story interesting, but it just seemed to lack the story that many of the others had. Emotion. Character. To me, this was almost just people playing with the puppets on camera.But I am a dear fan of the original classics, and like always, I look forward to seeing more!
TheLittleSongbird I personally don't think it is QUITE as good as Muppet Movie or Great Muppet Caper, and one or two scenes towards the beginning could have been better paced, but along with those two Muppet movies, Christmas Carol and Treasure Island, The Muppets Take Manhattan is one of the better Muppet movies by far. It has a great story, different but still a fun one, bouncy songs especially It's Time for Saying Goodbye and the superb Together Again, the Manhattan locations are clever and truly stunning and the cameos from the likes of Liza Minelli, Joan Rivers, Brooke Shields and Gregory Hines are fun personified. And the Muppet performers are once again spot on, and any scene with Miss Piggy especially is a joy. Overall, terrific fun and recommended. 8.5/10 Bethany Cox
