Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
Vashirdfel Simply A Masterpiece
Freeman This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Justina The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
mrryanscott-15530 This was a very interesting show. I liked Ellen Muth and Mandy Patinkin a lot. The show was a little thin once the premise kind of wears off a few episodes in but it was a lot of fun while it lasted.
sweetrollthief This is one of my all-time favourite TV series that I've now seen and seen again. I'm assuming it took me a few episodes to really appreciate it, but honestly I don't even remember a time when I didn't love it. I found it thru suggestions in the wake of Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls, and while those were both excellent, Dead Like Me feels much more real and gritty. The acting and writing go hand in hand perfectly--it's whimsical, yes, but not technicolour, doused in saturation whimsy. All of the characters have their own charm. Mandy Patinkin is always great to watch, and Ellen Muth and Laura Harris grew on me too. The soundtrack is mouth-watering! At times charming/upbeat and at times desperately haunting...There's kind of a fine line between disliking (or liking) a show because it's up your alley vs. because it's well-done. Dead Like Me isn't exactly a drama, or comedy, or fantasy, or some surreal art piece, and because of that in many ways it feels almost subdued, but there is a lot of wit and story-telling and beauty in it.
RaspberryLucozade I really did try my hardest to get into this show but each and every time I would just come away feeling bored and irritated. I find it tedious and completely lacking in subtlety and suspension. How it ever got beyond the commission stage is beyond me.Georgina 'Georgia' Lass ( Ellen Muth ) is an awkward cynical teenage girl whose life is empty and worthless. One day, she is crushed to death after being struck from a falling toilet bowl. She is then revived as a grim reaper by a team of fellow reapers who include the smug Rube ( Mandy Patatkin ), the dim-witted Mason ( Callum Blue ), the hard-hearted Roxy ( Jasmine Guy ) and the loud and vindictive Betty ( Rebecca Gayheart ).The death of Georgia has a profound affect on her parents, Joy ( Cynthia Stevenson ) and Clancy ( Greg Kean ), who relationship is on stony ground. Georgia's sister Reggie ( Britt McKillip ) is also affected by her sibling's death, so much so that she goes through a phase of stealing toilet seats for sometime thereafter.Ellen Muth irritated me as the gawky Georgia. She was devoid of any emotion whatsoever, and the rest of the cast were just plain boring. The biggest offender though in the cast was Mandy Patatkin as Rube. His character's arrogance and intolerance towards people was really too much for me. For instance, there was a scene in one episode where in an airport waiting area, his patience towards the repeated cries from a baby snapped, to which he loudly exclaimed: ''I'm gonna kill that fuckin' baby!''. That was my cue to stop watching. Two seasons were made, which was two too many for me. I'm sorry if you like the show and do not agree with my harsh review, but it really just did not click with me at all!
bencibu The series is centered on the life of George , an 18-year-old apathetic college drop-out girl who goes through life without having a purpose. The truth is she doesn't even want to have one, she is comfortable the way she is. Up until the day of her death… Which also means the end of her days of slothfulness since she's chosen to become a grim reaper. First she tries making a getaway from this seemingly distressing responsibility but this isn't something she can just shrug off which she has a hard time accepting. The story's very well written and it's found the delicate balance between quite a few genres being drama, comedy and horror. I really like the way the series deals with death. It's not our final destination, rather something we all have to go through before the next act begins. Once you've got into the swing of the series you'll actually end up anticipating the deaths of the 'victim to be-s' of George… What I didn't like is the first few episodes which could have been a little faster paced, and that only two seasons have been made.
