johnkasdorf-1 Tig Notaro's infamous 2012 stand-up set at Largo proved that cancer, like anything else, can be funny. Yes, it can. Yes, it can. If you disagree, cool. But you're wrong. That's like saying "broccoli doesn't taste good." Maybe not to you, but to someone, broccoli is delicious. Comedy is subjective, and a joke based on any topic or situation, no matter how horrible or distasteful to you, has the potential be funny to someone. Maybe not you. That's fine. But someone. Trying to apply a "cancer isn't funny" rule is preposterous, conceited, and futile.Okay, here's my opinion of the show, if you care. The second season was weaker than the first. Plot lines started to feel splintered and diverged from the main character's story. Common pitfall of many second season shows. I guess this was more of a rebuttal to another reviewer than a straightforward helpful review. Hope it doesn't keep you up at night.Insomnia isn't funny.
destinyawest One Mississippi had me hooked from the very first episode and I binged watched the first season in one day. I love Tig's dry sense of humour and the dynamics between her family. The show not only shows the dynamics of Tig's life but also explores that of her stepfathers and her brothers, and all their lives are equally as interesting to watch. The show really draws you in to the sense that you are if not part of the family but a fly on the wall, truly getting a glimpse into a modern dysfunctional family that regardless of their difference and a dark past seem to truly all care for one another. My only gripe about One Mississippi is that the seasons are not long enough for me, considering each show runs for only half an hour and there are only 6 episodes for each season. They definitely leave you hanging wanting much more. I can't wait for season 3. So take the plunge and start watching One Mississippi, you won't regret it.
datad25 The is a great show. The story line is true-to-life, comfortable and relaxed. I love the diversity. The writers must have a lot of empathy to make the characters so human. Tig and Stephanie Allynne are wonderful. They work together much better. The relationship between Sheryl Lee Ralph and John Rothman and between Noah Harpster and Carly Jibson really add to the series. Keep it up!
julia morris I had heard her brilliant breakthrough stand up routine several years ago on the radio while driving alone. It was amazing in both its originality and its sheer funniness. This series is a natural outgrowth of that set. I only found out about it when she was on the James Corden show tonight. I really really really like it. I am binging the whole season, I do hope she makes more. the acting is so authentic. You laugh in recognition of all of these human moments: Nutty friends and relatives, pain, joy, inappropriate thoughts at solemn times, secrets, love, confusion, responsibility,She completely captures the wonderful counterposition of hysterically funny and ineffably sad that is the human condition...like a fart in church at a tragic funeral or when the principal danseur in a ballet get kicked hard in the testicles by a mistimed grande battement and lets out a big oof in and otherwise exquisitely beautiful and sad pas de deux. It an Amazon Original series and worth your time.
