SunnyHello Nice effects though.
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Cassandra Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Jordan Hutton A few months back I caught this on a repeat and decided I liked it enough to buy the complete collection on DVD - and very glad I did! This series is an excellent light-hearted mystery show suitable for the majority of audiences. I have watched a good deal of crime and mystery television - and while many shows out there are more 'groundbreaking' than Rosemary and Thyme: it must be said that this show is excellent fun - it doesn't take itself seriously and the two main characters: Rosemary Boxer (Felicity Kendal) and Laura Thyme (Pam Ferris) are great fun to watch and make for an excellent team. It's a huge shame that ITV decided to cancel this series before series 4 began as this was an amazing show and I loved watching every minute of it.
TheLittleSongbird Of course I have grown up on Inspector Morse, Touch of Frost and Midsummer Murders, but Rosemary and Thyme so deserves to be up there with them. As so many other commentators have so rightly said, why was this fantastic series cancelled? Sure I don't think it is as complex as Morse, but it is very entertaining, fun, and relaxing to watch! Visually, it's lovely to look at, some of the gardens featured in the series are just beautiful beyond words. The theme tune by Christopher Gunning was superb, and had this Irish folk music feel. Felicity Kendel and Pam Ferris are perfect as the female gardeners/sleuths, they had great chemistry, and there are many memorable moments in the series. In conclusion, if you see this series on television, or see it in the shop, watch it, because you'll be glad you did. 10/10 Bethany Cox
HallmarkMovieBuff I noticed a couple years ago that this series is available on DVD, and have been wanting to see it. It finally arrived on my local PBS/APT outlet this weekend, and I wasn't disappointed. My main reason for watching was to see how one of my favorites, Felicity Kendal, from the mid-'70s U.K. TV series "The Good Life" ("Good Neighbors" in America) was faring. Upon first sight here, I exclaimed, "Omigod, that woman hasn't changed in thirty years!" Whether due to a Dorian Gray picture in her closet, a good plastic surgeon, or whatever, her ageless visage was a welcome sight. (Still, as always, the hands give away the true passage of years.) But back to the series. I've seen just the first episode so far, but although they're not exactly Holmes and Watson, Kendal's Rosemary Boxer and Ferris' Laura Thyme promise to make a good investigative duo in the tradition of Tommy and Tuppence, Peel and Steed, and others from the U.K. school of crime-solving. After I've seen the series on TV, I'll decide whether to add the DVDs to my British mysteries collection.
mr-lister Thank God this has not been renewed by ITV.This series, while popular (God knows why) has a very simple - 'Look I've found another body behind the flowers/bushes/trees/wherever they are working - for the sixteenth time this series' plot. The dialogue is so simple it's as though this has been written for children - talking down to the viewer and explaining every plot point. They just 'happen' to be around when someone does something out the ordinary - and no-one notices them.Every time they look into and investigate someone's murder, they get in the way of everyone else - messing up the lives of all - including those completely innocent. They break and enter into people's homes, stealing items and evidence (even firearms) being nosey and getting into people's lives, spying on them and going through their stuff. They never apologise, never get caught or arrested (and if they do they can talk their way out of it, even though another character who does the same gets put in prison!!!).They always come up trumps. Now I know that this is an easy going series, but I think that realistically this should not have made it past the first few episodes! Put simply, it's unrealistic.I think that they have found enough bodies in the undergrowth both here and on the Continent (where they are every other week), so I do hope it never comes back.ITV should get some action on the screen instead of all the years of humdrum - 'someone's been murdered at the village fair - again' type series.
