Freaktana A Major Disappointment
gz-30045 I like an interesting mystery when it's supported by good police work. These two elements are sadly lacking in 'The Five'. It is riddled with convoluted plot lines and rife with poor police procedure. Watch Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse, Broadchurch, Inspector Gently: all fine examples of good detective work by comparison. Hell, The Thin Blue Line had better police procedure when DI Grim wasn't trying to derail things. A police officer, Danny continually giving out 'Confidential' information; a comatose prisoner escaping a guarded ICU ward; a solicitor overstepping the limits of the law, and who doesn't seem to work at his practice; the detective who was involved in the original disappearance of Jesse is now in charge of the murder investigation linking Jesse's DNA to the victims? This no longer feels like a well crafted story, but one which is contrived to match a particular checklist. Yes, DNA turning up on a murder victim from a child who disappeared 20 years ago is interesting. But the rest - rubbish.
dianegoldman I was intrigued right from the first episode my one major complaint is the almost consist loud annoying music, which accompsnied any movement, running, sitting, observing! Why
nvweldon I really didn't expect to write a review, but since there's no longer a message board, I had a couple of things that bugged me, which is why I gave it a grade of 8. First of all, since Pru had moved to America, where she got married, gave birth, and only recently returned to England, I'm having a hard time figuring out why her daughter has a British accent. Secondly, the actor playing her husband had the worst American accent I've ever heard, and since half the actors playing Americans on American TV are either English or Australian, I've heard many. Other than these minor problems, I thought it was a very good show.
sdisnie2 About a month ago I had sat down to watch this show and for whatever reason I didn't finish the first episode, but after a friend told recommended it to me I came back to watch it again and this time went through the whole season in just 2 days. There were a few parts in the beginning that were a little slow but you definitely have to pay attention and stick with it. I really loved the characters and thought the acting was superb. Excellent story line and I love how they would flash back to when they were kids and show how close they were and still are. I won't give away any spoilers but the ending was so good that I cried!
I am curious as to how they are going to have another season unless it will be a totally different story line with different characters as it feels as though they wrapped up the whole mystery in this one season.
