robert-temple-1 This is a review of Season One, not having seen the next two seasons. The lead character Carrie Wells is someone who not only has formidable powers of memory, but who can revisit a scene and study all the details from her powers of photographic recall. I have only known one person who could summon up an image in his mind's eye by memory, hold it there, and study it for as long as he wished. That was the late Dr. Joseph Needham of Cambridge, a close friend of mine. Although he never discussed this with me himself, a mutual friend, the scientist Peter Mitchell, told me that Joseph's first wife Doffy had said to him: 'Joseph lies in bed correcting the proofs of his latest book in his head. But he got bored with that, and now he translates them into French first.' True story! Joseph really was a serious genius. It is important to record this, because people with the powers of 'Carrie Wells' in this TV series do really exist, even if there may be only two or three of them alive on the planet at any one time, for instance. (I have no idea of the true numbers, I am just guessing.) The producers of this detective series have made an excellent choice for the actress to play Carrie Wells. Her name is Poppy Montgomery, and she is entirely convincing in the part. Her character is co-opted by the New York Police Department to help solve crimes, and we see her 'remembered scenes' in the film, and we ourselves can pick out the details which she recalls, which then turn out to be the crucial evidence. It is all very interesting and entertaining. Must get the next seasons. Well done to John Bellucci and the other producers, and to all the directors, for thinking of this clever series and realizing it so successfully! (I see from IMDb that Poppy Montgomery herself has produced 8 episodes so far in 2014. Go for it, Poppy!)
Solaris88 A fairly standard police show, with the hook being the woman with the perfect memory who never forgets anything. The cases are routine and there's no absolutely chemistry between the cast members. Worst of all is that the lead actress, Poppy Montgomery, seems weirdly miscast in her role. Either that or the writers/directors are mismanaging her badly. Watching her twirl her hair around her finger, bat her eyes coquettishly, and giggle like a little girl is just flat out embarrassing. She's supposed to be a 40 year old police detective, yet she has all the mannerisms of a fairly air-headed teen-aged girl. What the heck is that all about?
Louisejohnson669 Difficult scoring as the program is excellent, I really enjoy the idea of it but the main character is the most annoying person I have ever seen! Her memory skills are amazing and makes for good twists in the story however her attitude and the way she is always right and dismisses people is unbelievable, rude and quite frankly unrealistic. The writers have tried to give her some faults (gambling and being a maverick) to make her more human but fail miserably.Even with her memory she wouldn't be right this often and why should having a flawless memory mean you can do whatever you want without consequence? The concept would get a 10 but the main character would get a 2 (and that's generous)in the scoring.
SnoopyStyle Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery) rejoins his former police partner Al Burns (Dylan Walsh) to solve crimes. She uses her special ability to recall everything she sees. She is haunted by her sister Rachael's death when they were both children. The first season has that storyline in the background. It was played out by the end of season one. The second season got a reboot with new characters, new sets, and a new feel. While I like Poppy and Dylan combo, there isn't much support for the leads. This is especially true since they keep changing the show. The only other big name is Jane Curtin who joined the show late in the first season. It's not a great fit for Jane either. The show is a standard police procedural. The sister backstory was never that compelling. The gimmick of seeing her recall ability works well. But they need better stability and better supporting actors. It gets an extra fourth season on A&E which is anything but unforgettable.
